Jōdo-ji Temple's Garden (National scenic beauty)
The garden consists of flat land covered in white sand and a small mountainside designed in the style of a tsukiyama, or miniature hill. Numerous stones are arranged across the hillside, and a small dry waterfall cascades from its center, forming a pond at its foot. The Rotekian teahouse sits on the hillside.
An old drawing archived at the temple shows that Hasegawa Senryū of Tokushima designed the garden in 1806. This makes the garden exceptionally valuable, as very few gardens from the Edo period or earlier (before 1868) have identifiable creators and dates.
