Jōdo-ji Temple's Two-Story Pagoda (Tahōtō), built in 1329 (National Treasure)
The Tahōtō Pagoda is a Buddhist stupa with a square first story and a circular second story. It was rebuilt in 1329 after it burned down in 1325.
For a Tahōtō pagoda, it is large in scale and well-proportioned. It is renowned alongside the pagodas at Ishiyama-dera Temple in Shiga Prefecture and Kongōsanmai-in Temple in Wakayama Prefecture.
During its restoration in 1936, numerous sutras and other items were found in the metal pinnacle (sōrin) at the top of the pagoda.
